Mary Martha Hamilton, daughter of Alexander and Malinda Hamilton, was born Nov. 25, 1850, in Schuyler county, Missouri, and died at her home in Leon, Iowa, May 1, 1913, aged 62 years, 5 months and 6 days.

She was married to James H. Acton in 1867, and to this union were born three children. Mrs. Junetta E. Harp died in 1911 and Mrs. Alfraetta Bennett died in 1897. The surviving child is Wm. Vernon Acton, who resides at Aberdeen, S. D. In addition to the husband and son, she also leaves three brothers: W. P. Hamilton, of Louisiana; J. H. and M. W. Hamilton, of Davis City; three sisters: Mrs. Jefferson Kizzire, of Pleasanton; Mrs. J. W. Burrell, of Davis City; and Mrs. S. L. Craig, of Pleasanton; together with a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends to mourn her loss.

She united with the Primitive Baptist church called Palestine, by experience and baptism in February, 1875, and lived a consistent life, faithful in all of her relations, a true companion, loved and respected by all.

Short funeral services were held at the home on Friday, May 2nd, with songs and scripture reading from 1st Cor. 15th chapter, with thoughts on the resurrection. This body must put on incorruption and this mortal must put on immortality. The remains, accompanied by a number of sorrowing relatives, were taken to Pleasanton for interment in the Pleasanton;[Hamilton] cemetery by the side of her father and mother to await the ressurection.
