REGINA HAMMOND was born in Ohio, March 5,
l84l, and died at her home in
Garden Grove, Iowa, July l0, l9l5, aged 74
years, 4 months and 5 days.

She, with her parents, moved to Missouri when
she was a girl two years
old. Her father died when she was three
years of age and her mother
died when she was but seven years old. After
her mother's death she
stayed with her grandmother and commenced to
work out when a girl of
eleven.

In l857, she was married to JAMES BROWN and
to this union were born two
children, LAURA and NETTIE. Her husband was
a stage driver and met his
death shortly after her second child was
born, leaving her with the two
children to support. LAURA, the oldest, died
in early childhood. The
hardships she endured during war times
working out to support her
children are touching indeed. When her
youngest child, NETTIE was nine
years old, she was working in Leavenworth,
Kansas, and while the mother
was away in the country, helping care for a
sick family, the child was
stolen and was never found or heard of
afterwards.

On February 5, l87l, she was united in
marriage to WILLIS HINE at Willow
Springs Station, Colfax County, New Mexico.
To this union there were
born four children, two daughters and two
sons. MRS. LOTTIE MCCOLLOUGH,
of Medicine Lodge, Kansas, MRS. NELLIE
JOHNSON, of Leon, Iowa, and
GEORGE W. and FRED, both of Garden Grove, all
of whom were present at
the time of her death.

She was deprived of all educational
advantages in early life and after
she was married she learned to read that she
might read the Bible to her
own children.

Shortly afterward they moved to Garden Grove
where they lived for about
twelve years and moved to a farm west of High
Point where they lived for
twenty-seven years. Six years ago they moved
back to Garden Grove and
made it their home ever since.

She was a loving wife, devoted mother and a
kind neighbor, and will be
missed by her family and friends. She
expressed herself at different
times as being prepared to go. The funeral
was conducted on Sunday, by
Rev. Duling, assisted by Rev. Heiser, at the
M.E. Church. Interment was
made in the Garden Grove Cemetery.

*She suffered the loss of so many loved ones
and survived to a advanced
age. This touched my heart. N
