Emily Anita Waugh, age 91, was born December 17, 1926, in Andes, Montana, to Richard Emil and Eva Elizabeth (Jorgensen) Jorgensen. She passed from this life on February 10, 2018, at her home in Lamoni, Iowa, surrounded by her family.

Emily attended country school in Andes, Montana through the 8th grade. She continued on to high school in Sidney, Montana, where she lived in a boarding house and worked her way through school. Upon graduation from high school, she taught country school for a year, to earn money to travel to Lamoni, Iowa to attend Graceland College. After earning her teaching degree, she moved back to Montana, where she taught in Sidney for a short time. She then moved back to Lamoni to teach in the elementary school. It was here that she met and was married to James Milton Waugh on June 1, 1951. They were blessed with four children, Larry James, Connie Jo, Vicky Jean, and Gary Jay. While raising her children, Emily substitute taught at Lamoni Schools, as well as a term in Eagleville, Missouri. She was a substitute teacher in Lamoni for 19 years.

Emily also helped run the Sale Barn Café for many years. She was an excellent cook, a well-know baker, and a wonderful seamstress. She enjoyed sharing these talents with her children and grandchildren. Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her great grandchildren affectionately knew her as “Grandma Great.”

She was baptized at the age of eight years into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she remained a faithful member until her death. She was a longtime member of the Decatur City Restoration Branch where she taught Sunday school and organized and directed many Bible Schools.

Preceding her in death were her parents; in-laws, Archie and Treva Waugh; husband, Jim Waugh; and siblings, Arnold Jorgensen, Edna and Don Bennett, and Marjorie and Clifford Foss. Survivors include her children, Larry Waugh, Connie and Tom Carrall, Vicky Osborn, Gary and Shelly Waugh, all of Lamoni, Iowa; grandchildren, Maigen Carrall of Creston, Iowa, Shyra and Casey Ogier of Lamoni, Iowa, Shayla and Jim Findley of Afton, Iowa, Zach Waugh of Millington, Michigan, Hannah Carrall of Ridgeway, Missouri, Shanci and Nathan Craig of Lamoni, Iowa, Cassidy and Cassie Waugh of Lamoni, Iowa, Whitney Carrall and Carley Robbins of Lamoni, Iowa, and Tucker Waugh of Lamoni, Iowa; great grandchildren, Emaleigh Pierschbacher, Kaleb, Cael, Creyton and Koleson Ogier, Logan, Olivia and Jacob Findley, Cailyn and Ashlynn Waugh, Aubrianna Glenn and Brilee Polley, Kellan and Jorgensen Craig, Peyton Waugh, and Kemper Waugh; brother, Al Jorgensen and wife, Mary, of Cameron, Missouri; brother in-law, Doyle Waugh of Lamoni, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Matie Jorgensen of Tucson, Arizona, Sandra Sibole and husband, Gene, of Des Moines, Iowa, Marilyn Evans of Des Moines, Iowa, Marlene Waugh of Ankeny, Iowa, Lorene Waugh of Norwalk, Iowa, and Janice Waugh of Detroit, Michigan; many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Lamoni Community of Christ Church in Lamoni, Iowa with Elders Jon Barney, Wayne Bowers, and Tim Carr officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa. Arrangements were through the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni, Iowa.

A memorial fund has been established by the Family.
