Dr. Mary K. Kratoska died Sep. 25, 2010. She was predeceased by her parents, Floyd and Phyllis Kratoska of Boone, Iowa, and is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Louise Kratoska, and a nephew, Adam Kratoska, residing in Singapore.

Dr. Kratoska was born in Des Moines August 7, 1951, and grew up in Boone, Iowa. She earned her bachelor?s degree from the University of Iowa and was a 1977 graduate of the Creighton University School of Medicine. A certified diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, she was the first female physician to open a private obstetrics and gynecology practice in Omaha.

Dr. Kratoska was a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the American Medical Association, the Nebraska State Medical Association, the Metropolitan Omaha Medical Society, and the Omaha OB-GYN Society.

During her career, she served on the Nebraska Women?'s Health Advisory Council for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, and on numerous boards at Bergan Mercy Hospital. She was also a past member of the Creighton Medical Alumni Advisory Board and served twice on the admissions committee for the Creighton School of Medicine. In 2006 she earned a 25-year faculty service award for her work as an assistant clinical professor with Creighton, and the following year the university honored Dr. Kratoska by selecting her to receive the Alumni Merit Award.

Dr. Kratoska was deeply committed to Omaha and was active in the community, serving as a patron or sponsor of the Omaha Ballet, the Omaha Symphony, the Omaha Playhouse, and the Henry Doorly Zoo. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Cross, where she served as a Deacon and was a church Elder at the time of her death.

A gathering of friends, acquaintances and former patients will take place at the West Center Chapel between 7 and 8.30 p.m. on Monday, September 27th. All who care to pay their respects are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to invite contributions to the Nebraska Humane Society or to the Nebraska Kidney Association.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Tuesday, 11 a.m., Presbyterian Church of the Cross, 1517 S. 114 St., preceded by a private interment.
