DEATH NOTICE:

REED, Glenn B., Jr., 76, of Lamoni, Iowa, died January 27, 2010. Following cremation, a graveside service will be held today, Wednesday, February 3 at Decatur Cemetery in Decatur City, Iowa. Arrangements are through Slade-O'Donnell Funeral home of Leon and Lamoni.

Memorials may be give to the Mount Ayr Office of Hospice of Central Iowa.

Obituary

Glenn Beverly Reed Jr. was born on August 24, 1933 in Ringgold County, Iowa. He passed from this world on January 27, 2010 at the age of 76 years old. He was the son of Glenn Reed and Mildred Moore Reed.

Glenn grew up in Harrison County, Missouri and attended the Coates and Cisco Country Schools. He met and married Marjorie Burch on May 19, 1953. They lived near Andover, Missouri during those first years together, he worked on a farm near Ridgeway, Missouri. To this union 7 children were born: daughters; Pearle Kruidenier (Mark) of Des Moines, IA; Betty Mills (Clint) of Pleasant Hill, IA; Glennda Livingston (Jeff) and Donna Owens of West Des Moines, IA; Janet Bowen (Mike) and Diane Miller (Preston) both of Jonesboro, AR and son Todd McBurney of Lakeland, Florida.

Glenn joined the Armed Forces in the early 1950's and spent two years on duty in Europe. When he returned home from serving his country he drove a highway transport truck delivering cars and later drove for the North American Moving Company. He and his family moved to Des Moines, Iowa in the early 1960's and he then started his own waste management business. His business was very successful and as a result he secured a long term disposal service contract with the Iowa State Fair for many years. He continued as a successful entrepreneur in the scrap metal, car and appliance recycling, and grain hauling businesses. At the peak of his trucking business, he owned and operated 23 grain hauling trucks. He moved to Lamoni, IA and retired in 1998. He continued his expertise as a business man raising and selling livestock until his health declined.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Glenn Reed and Mildred Smith, brothers Don Reed, Jim Reed and Rex Reed, and sister Dorothy Reed.

Survivors include all of his children; life partner for 33 years; Rosetta Koger, her children Beverly Dudek (Bill), Judy Badder (Gregg), Merle Hill (Dennis) all of Lamoni, IA and Ray Toney (Judy) of Norman, Oklahoma; sisters Twyla Harp of Greer, South Carolina, Peggy Wicker (Carroll) of Townville, South Carolina, brothers Eldon Reed of Des Moines, IA, Ron Reed (Vickie) and Bob Reed (Dee) both of Davis City, IA; sister-in-law Verna Reed of Runnells, IA; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and friends.
