Mabel Fierce, 94, of Leon died Dec. 24, 2012, at Westview Acres in Leon.

Funeral services were 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 103 N.E. Mill St., Leon. The Rev. Rick Hawkins officiated. Burial was in Van Wert Cemetery. The Rev. John Pehrson officiated. Memorials may be given to Van Wert Cemetery.

Mabel Elizabeth Hacker Fierce, daughter of Ola Mae (Pittman) and Don Keith Hacker, was born May 24, 1918, on a farm near Fairview in Decatur County. She grew up near Weldon and graduated from Weldon High School in 1935.

On Feb. 19, 1939, Mabel married Russell Eben Fierce. Mabel was a housewife and farmwife.

Mabel was a member of Weldon Methodist Church, later changing membership to Van Wert Methodist Church. Mabel was a leader of the M.Y.F. church youth group and a Sunday School teacher. Mabel was a 4-H leader and served on Decatur County 4-H Committee. Mabel volunteered for cancer drives, Red Cross blood drives, was a Pink Lady at Decatur County Hospital and helped at Decatur County Historical Museum. She served on the SCICAP board and was women’s vice-chairman of Decatur County Farm Bureau.

Mabel is survived by her children, Dennis (wife Kay) Fierce of Van Wert, Gary Fierce of St. Charles, Mo., and Judy (husband the Rev. John) Pehrson of South Sioux City, Neb.; grandchildren, Teresa (husband Dean) Woods of Osceola, Douglas (wife Rene) Fierce of Van Wert, Tammy (husband David) Peebler of Altoona, Jeffrey (wife Kristine) Fierce of Ames, Thomas (wife Tina) Pehrson of Drake, Colo., and Kimberly Pehrson of Worthington, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Tiffany (husband Jordan) Redman, Tricia and Trenton Woods, Alexandrea, Nathan and Matthew Fierce, Kalli and Leyton Peebler, Elizabeth and Gabriel Fierce and Thaddeus and Oliver Pehrson; great-great-grandson Roman Redman; sister Mary Butcher of Knoxville; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; sister Louise (Henry) Hein; brothers, John (Thelma) and Keith (Ellen) Hacker; brother-in-law Leo Butcher; great-granddaughter Victoria Fierce; and husband in 1998.
