Ronald Fredrick Young, age 68, of Leon, Iowa, the son of Fredrick Maurice and Arline Elizabeth (Green) Young, was born February 7, 1949, in Leon, Iowa. He died at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday, December 26, 2017.

Fred, as he was known, attended country school and then Central Decatur School, graduating in 1968. As a kid, he mowed yards, shoveled sidewalks, and had a paper route. Later he worked at the DX Station in Leon. He started driving truck and continued the profession for 41 years until retirement. On December 14, 1991, he married Connie Ann Bivans, in Indianola, Iowa. For sixteen years, he and Connie worked as over the road truckers in the United States and Canada. Their home was always Leon. In his free time, Fred enjoyed fishing.

Fred loved to tease and insult people in fun. His best friend was always a four-legged one, he currently has Peanut. When Fred was about ten years old, his mom said Christmas trees were too expensive so Fred came home one with one he had cut down from a neighbor lady’s yard and drug it home in the snow. His mother just knew the law would be coming to the door.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two infant sons, Ronald and Lyle; brother, Doug Young; sister, Connie White; parents-in-law, Donald and Dorothy Bivans; and brother-in-law, David Bivans. Survivors include his wife, Connie Young of Leon; stepsons, Gail Beaman of Des Moines, Iowa and LeRoy Beaman and wife, Danielle, of Dexter, Iowa; granddaughters, Vera and Tyleeah Beaman; sisters, Cindy and Mike Kauzlarich and Carol Young, all of Leon; sisters-in-law, Sharon Young of Osceola, Iowa and Debra Lincoln of Des Moines, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Ron White of Decatur, Iowa, Jerry Bivans of Winterset, Iowa, and Jacob Bivans of Des Moines; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018, with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Cemetery, Decatur, Iowa, at a later date.
