Rebecca Ruth Ramsey, age 56, of Lamoni, Iowa, the daughter of Bob Newton and Jerie Gail (Davis) Ramsey, was born October 17, 1960, in Mount Ayr, Iowa. She died at her home with her parents on Saturday, March 25, 2017.

Rebecca grew up and attended school in Lamoni, Iowa. She graduated in 1978, and then attended Graceland College, earning her bachelor’s degree in 1982, with a double major in music education and math. She taught music in Russell, Iowa, for a year, then at Irwin-Kirkman Schools in Irwin, Iowa, for another year. She returned to Graceland for classes in computer science. She was offered a job as a computer analyst for Ford Motor Company, so she moved to the Ann Arbor, Michigan, area. After several years, she transferred to another auto supply manufacturer and then to M-Care, a Michigan-area HMO, before starting at the University of Iowa in 2008, earning a master’s degree in library science. In 2010, she returned to Lamoni as Director of the Lamoni Public Library and to be with her parents.

Rebecca loved music. In her free time she played piano, viola, organ, and flute, and she enjoyed singing. She was a member of Community of Christ, the Lamoni Book Club, and Third Monday Book Club. She enjoyed traveling, scrapbooking, and keeping in touch with her many friends across the country. She was pursuing a master’s degree through the Community of Christ Seminary. As Director of the Lamoni Public Library, she had a strong presence in the community and positively touched the lives of many.

Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Gerald and Mabel Davis, and Ova and Ruth Ramsey.

Survivors include her parents, Bob and Jerie Gail Ramsey of Lamoni; brother, Gerald Ramsey and wife, Vivian of Cedar Falls, Iowa; niece, Tara Lynn Ramsey and husband, Andrew Rosenblum of Chicago, Illinois; nephew, Steve Ramsey of Des Moines, Iowa; uncle and aunt, Elwyn and Karen Davis of Pittsburg, Kansas; cousins, Victor Davis of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Karis Townsend of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Lamoni Community of Christ Church in Lamoni, Iowa, on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. with Elders Les Gardner and Rich Higdon officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa. Arrangements were through the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the Lamoni Public Library Endowment.
