Marie McBroom, age 93, of Leon, Iowa, formerly Decatur, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Eva Muriel (Bartlet) Eastin, was born February 10, 1924, in Harrison County, Missouri. She died at Accura Health Care West in Newton, Iowa on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.

Marie grew up in Garden Grove, Iowa. While in high school she played the French horn in the band and also played basketball. She graduated in 1942. On June 8, 1945, she married James Keith McBroom in Decatur County, Iowa. They were blessed with five children, James, Larry, Jerry, Carol, and Karen. Marie lived most of her life in Decatur County where Jim farmed before working at Martin Marietta Quarries. Later they lived in Ames and then Boone, Iowa for 12 years. The rest of her life was spent living in Decatur County. Marie sold Avon, but mostly was a wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Leon, then Van Wert, and currently, Decatur. Family and church were the most important things in her life. In her free time, Marie enjoyed reading, knitting, and collecting churches and angels.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Jim on May 16, 1993; and her siblings, Johnny Eastin, Bernadine Hall, and five infants.

Survivors include her children, Jim & Carol McBroom of Nevada, Iowa, Larry & Terrie McBroom of Weldon, Iowa, Jerry & Karin McBroom of Indianola, Iowa, Carol McBroom of Leon, and Karen & Mike Wollesen of St. Cloud, Florida; 11 grandchildren, Paul McBroom, Jon McBroon, Tracie Pearce, Travis McBroom, Tina Ward, Erin McBroom, Skye McBroom, Lacey McBroom, Luke Wollesen, A.J. Wollesen, and Natalie Wollesen; 10 great grandchildren, Erin, Nora, Hunter, Wyatt, Zane, Helene, Becket, Amelia, Trenton, and Ryker; sister, Pauline Baldwin of Chillicothe, Missouri; many nieces and nephews; and lots of friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017, with Rev. Larry Owens officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, Iowa.
