Kathryn Elaine Hopkins, age 76, of Grand River, Iowa, the daughter of Marshall and Leona (Zimmer) Crangle, was born June 18, 1940, at Charles City, Iowa. She died at Manor Care in West Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday, March 28, 2017.

Kathy, as she was known, grew up in Colwell, Iowa and attended school there. She graduated in 1959. She attended UNI Teacher’s College for a year. Then she moved to Des Moines, Iowa and worked for Better Homes and Gardens for two years. During this time she met her husband, Donald Ray Hopkins. They were married on October 2, 1964, at Murray, Iowa. They lived on the family farm at Grand River. They were blessed with four children, Ryan, Darin, Aaron, and Donnel.

Kathy’s life was being a wife and mother to her family. She always loved Christmas. In younger years, she enjoyed bowling and gardening. In retirement years, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to be on the go. She took care of Don during his later years until his death in 2009.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Don; sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and John Yeager.

Survivors include her children, Ryan Hopkins and Bruce Remmey of West Des Moines, Iowa, Darin and Cathy Hopkins of Des Moines, Iowa, Aaron and Sheryl Hopkins of Carlisle, Iowa, and Donnel and Charles Adams of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Brittany and Anna Hopkins, Kristina, Devon, Cole and Tyler Hopkins, and Eian, Kaley, and Kelsey Adams; three great grandchildren, Weston, Emberlynn, and Acesyn; brother, Jerry Crangle and companion, Lorraine of Charles City, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.

A special thanks to our parents’ home care staff for the years of companionate care they received.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa on Friday, March 31, 2017, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Grand River Cemetery, Grand River, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the Grand River Community Center in Kathy’s memory.

Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni is in charge of arrangements.
