Leon, Decatur County, IowaEvelyn Mae “Manny” (Rumley) Butcher, age 84, of Leon, Iowa, passed away on May 28, 2017, at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon. She was born on January 9, 1933, in Leon, Iowa to Woodrow Wilson “Joe” Rumley and Ruby Awana (Owens) Rumley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Neil “Gramps” Butcher; daughter, Connie Butcher; grandson, Michael Butcher; sister, Lois Pering; brother, John Rumley; sister-in-law, Donna Rumley; and nephew, Tony Rumley.
Evelyn attended Leon schools and married Neil “Gramps” Butcher on June 5, 1950. She traveled with Neil and their kids on construction. In later years when the kids were in school, she worked at JC Penney, O’Bryan Brothers, and the Decatur County Hospital.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, playing cards, and going to the casino. She loved holiday get together and cooking a big meal for her family. She loved her family and wanted them around as much as possible. You never got to the bottom of your coffee cup as she was always filling it to the brim. You never left the house hungry, either. She was the family barber and cut everyone’s hair. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.
