Robert Michael Hynden, age 66, of Lamoni, Iowa, the son of Robert Bailey and Yvonne May (Walden) Hynden, was born April 20, 1950, in Iowa City, Iowa. He died on Thursday, January 5, 2017, in Lamoni, Iowa.

Bob grew up in Lamoni and attended Lamoni Schools, graduating in 1968. In 1969, he married Joyce Charlene Elliott. They were blessed with three daughters, Michelle, Lisa and Carrie. Bob and Joyce divorced in 1994. On May 10, 1997, Bob married Marie Petronella Johanna Antoinette Kamper in Central Park in Lamoni and her sons, Timothy and Quinn, became part of his family.

Bob trained to be a lineman and worked for Lamoni Municipal Utilities for many years. He also drove a truck for the United States Postal Service, and did general contracting work over his lifetime. His true passion was his numerous hobbies. He loved the outdoors, especially deer and turkey hunting and fishing. He was as close to a mountain man as any of us will ever know, attending rendezvous gatherings across the country, building flintlock muzzleloading rifles from scratch, forging and hand hammering Damascus metal into knives and spending hundreds of hours making fine wood products through a very involved process of multiple scorchings and sandings, using only the best "curly maple" he could find, because it made the most beautiful end product. More recently, Bob had studied up on double barrel rifles and developed his own process for converting double barrel shotguns into double barrel rifles. He also had an interest in making traditional long bows and had recently completed a few for his grandchildren

He was a unique man with a great love of nature and many talents, some of which are now lost to the world.

Preceding him in death was his dad, Bob Hynden, Sr. in 2006; and many good friends.

Survivors include his mother, Yvonne Hynden of Leon; wife, Marie Hynden of Lamoni; children, Shellie & Kevin Klommhaus of Mt. Ayr, Iowa, Lisa & Travis Jeanes of Lamoni, and Carrie & Nick Phelps of Lamoni; stepsons, Timothy Vanderwood of Brooklyn, CT and Quinn Vanderwood of Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kasydi, and Kade Klommhaus, Macie Jeanes, Ryean, Hagen, and Caylie Phelps; four step grandchildren; siblings, Doug & Adjuella Hynden of Midland, Texas, Dana & Bruce Snethen of Altoona, Iowa, James “Jim” Hynden of Holden, Missouri, and Linda & Tom Perkins of Kellerton, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Memorial services will be held at the Lamoni Community of Christ Church in Lamoni, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017, with Seventy Brad Speaks, Pastor Jim Fisher, and Elder Jon Barney officiating.

Arrangements were through the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni, Iowa.
