GREELEY, Colo. — Harry Fay Bethards, 94, died Thursday, October 27, 2016, in Greeley, Colorado.

He was born March 15, 1922, in Leon, Iowa to Oka and Margaret (Lorey) Bethards. He grew up in Leon and Mt Ayr, Iowa.

He was extremely proud of his service from 1942-1951 during WWII and the Korean War, where he was a code breaker in Naval Intelligence. After WWII, he attended college and received a Masters of Arts degree from NE Missouri Teachers College in 1950.

He was united in marriage to Lois Briggs June 3, 1945, in Bangor, Maine. He was a high school teacher and taught music and the sciences. He enjoyed electonics and volunteering at the Iowa City Veterans Hospital.

Harry is survived by his children, Larry (Connie) Bethards of Greeley, Colo., Sharon Bottorff of Kansas City, Mo., Dennis (Ramona) Bethards of Florence, Ariz., and Carol Bruton of Hemet, Calif.; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lois.
