DEATH NOTICE:

KELLER, Madonna, 78, of Leon, Iowa died on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2011, at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa, with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Calvary Baptist Church of Leon.

Madonna Doris Keller, daughter of Ira McKinley and Dorothy Ruth (Martin) Bennett, was born on February 23, 1933 in Leon, Iowa and died at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the age of 78 years.

Madonna was raised in Leon and graduated from Leon High School in 1951. On November 4, 1953 she married Melvin John Keller at St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Leon. From this union, four children were born; Diana, Randy, Dave, and Debbie.

Over the years Mel and Donna lived in Trenton, Missouri; Kewanee, Illinois; Leon, Osceola, and Centerville, Iowa. After Mel retired in June of 1995, they moved back to their hometown of Leon, Iowa.

While living in Osceola, Donna was active in The Volunteer Fireman's Auxiliary and the Girl Scouts of America. After retirement Mel and Donna pursued a woodcraft business and traveled to craft shows selling their creations.

Preceding her in death was her husband, her parents, twin sister Monna Spidle, brother Arlo Bennett, and Billie Vaughn.

Survivors include four children: Diana and Don Broshar of Slater, Iowa; Randy and Kris Keller of Polk City, Iowa; Dave and Laurie Keller of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Debbie and Michael Ericson of West Des Moines, Iowa; ten grandchildren: Nathan Broshar, Ryan (Ashlee) Broshar, Michelle (Joseph) Feldmann, and Kyle (Cris) Broshar; Matthew (Anne) Keller and Sarah (Jason) Allen; Drew and Derk Keller; Alyssa Ericson and Brooke (Andrew) Gillard; six great-grandchildren: Casey and Melanie Keller; Lauren and Jenna Allen; Riley Broshar; and Evelyn Gillard; brother: Paul (Mildred) Bennett; sister: Joan Mills; sisters-in-law Patty Bennett, Gladys (Miles) Leeper; brother-in-law Ed (Ruth) Keller; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday, August 8, 2011 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa, with burial following at Leon Cemetery. Visitation opens at the funeral home at noon on Sunday, August 7, with the family greeting friends 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be given to Calvary Baptist Church of Leon and mailed to: Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 103 NE Mill Street, Leon, IA 50144.
