Rowena (Roe) M. (Baker) Petty was born on June 16, 1921 in Leon, Iowa to Ralph and Maude (Hill) Baker. Her childhood years were spent growing up on the family farm. She attended school in Leon and graduated on May 8, 1939. Roe married Ames Petty of Lineville, Iowa at Grant City, Missouri on July 22, 1939.

They resided in Decatur County for 4 years where Roe taught country school and Ames farmed. They then moved to Waterloo, Iowa where they operated their own TV and Appliance Store (Evansdale TV) until 1960. From there they moved to Wahkon, Minnesota where they owned and operated Freddie’s Resort until 1989. Roe enjoyed working with the public. Over the years Roe had a variety of jobs. She worked at Community Mercy Hospital as a nursing assistant, Brainerd State Hospital as a psychiatric technician, and Combined Accident Insurance as a sales representative. She was the top sales representative in the US in 1974 and also top sales manager of the year in 1975 for Combined Insurance. After retirement she enjoyed sewing as a Courage Center home crafter, taking care of her flowers, camping, fishing, hunting, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
