Leon, Decatur County, IowaCalvin Warner Hoffman was born in Arcanum, Ohio, on Jan. 9, 1854, and died Sept. 4, 1930. Calvin was the son of Karl Jacob and Susan Warner Hoffman. Decatur county was his home for seventy-six years. He was a member of the second graduating class of the Leon high scool. Following graduation he studied law in the office of M. P. Bullock and was admitted to the bar in 1876.
He married in 1884 to Miss Mary Jackson who died in February the following year.
On July 24 1886 he married Miss Ellen Parrish.
He left to mourn his loss his wife, Mrs Ellen Hoffman, four daughters, Himena, Martha, Majorie and Dorothy, three sons Leon Frederick and James, two children, Vera and Paul died in infancy. One sister, Mrs. R. L. Parrish of Barranquilia, South America, two brothers G. W. and James Baker and two grandchildren, Mamie Neil and George Frederick Jr.
The funeral service was held at the home north of Leon Sunday afternoon, Rev. Howard P. Young of Leon M. E. church conducting the service. Burial followed in the Leon Cemetery.
