Obituary ~ Barbara Matilda "Barb" (Carter) Gonseth
March 24, 1920 ~ January 23, 2008

Barbara Matilda Gonseth, daughter of Leon Americus Carter and Edna McDaniel Carter, was born March 24, 1920 in Ethel, MO and passed from this life January 23, 2008 at The Kavanagh House on Grand [Des Moines] at 87 years of age.

Barb graduated from high school in LaPlata, MO and attended one year of Business College in Fort Madison. She was united in marriage to L.S. Gonseth on May 14, 1943 in Wichita, KS and two sons blessed this union.

Barb was a farm wife for most of her life but also enjoyed her job as a sales clerk for Gem Connection. She was a member of the Osceola United Methodist Church; a charter member of Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #3495; and also belonged to Ophir Chapter #267 Order of Eastern Star and several bridge clubs. Her biggest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Those relatives who preceded Barb in death were her parents; husband; grandson, Matthew Gonseth; brother, Lloyd Carter; and sister, Virginia Rose Carter.

She leaves to cherish her memory; sons, Jim Gonseth of Osceola and Steve Gonseth and wife Cheryl of Urbandale; granddaughters, Lori Ruth of Osceola, Darcy Gonseth of Osceola, Valerie Paul (Greg) of Seattle, WA; grandson, Dustin Gonseth of Osceola; great grandchildren, Nicole, Ashley & Zachary Ruth, Sammy, Maxwell & Sophie Hobbs and Austin Gonseth; other relatives and friends.
