John Morris Gardner died November 24, 1933 at Leon, Iowa. He was the son of John Morris Gardner and Helen Dawson Gardner, born Sept. 2, 1862. He spent his entire life in or near Leon Iowa. He graduated from school in 1879.

He was united in marriage to Olive Arney on Feb 4 1885. Two daughters were born, Mrs. Helen Waters of Leon and Mrs Linnie Powers of Corning Iowa. Both of who along with his wife, survive him. He leaves 5 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He farmed the greater part of his life and moved to his present home in Leon the spring of 1894. His only sister Miss Alice Gardner predceded him in death on April 28 1932.

He served three terms as Mayor of Leon and served at various times as a member of the Leon City Council. He was an active member in the Masonic circles.

Funeral services were conducted by the Masonic order from the Stewart funeral Home Sunday afternoon. Burial was in the Leon cemetery.
