Obituary ~ Mary Jane (Wallace) Evans
March 08, 1858 ~ January 30, 1926

Mary Jane Wallace Evans was born in Decatur County March 8, 1858, the daughter of Peter B. and Anna (Smith) Wallace, and died Jan. 30, 1926. On September 23, 1885, she was united in marriage to Isaac E. Evans.

Mary and Isaac resided on a farm within a half mile of her parents and it was her joy and privilege to assist in caring for them during their lifetime, also in caring for the four orphaned children of her younger sister who died leaving them motherless. One of these children, Mrs. Christina Still, lives in Leon and Mrs. Evans always bestowed as near the same love upon her as upon her own children as was possible for one to do.

Besided her daughters and neice, her brother, Henry Wallace of Kansas City and two sisters, Mrs. Belle Hatfield, of Kansas City, and Mrs. Agnes Powers, of Decatur, were at her bedside.

When a young woman she united with the M.E. church of Leon and later when moving to Leon in 1908 she with her family united with the Christian Church of this city. She was also a faithful member of the Order of the Easter Star, White Shrine of Jerusalem and Rebekah Lodge of this city.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ, Leon, Iowa on Friday afternoon, February 1, 1929. Following the sermon the beutiful and appropriate burial service of the Easter Star White Shrine of Jerusalem concluded the service at the Church. Interment was in the Leon Cemetery
