Dr. B. L. Eiker died at a hospital in Sioux City Iowa of influenza and pneumonia. He was attending the annual meeting of the Iowa State Medical Society. He had been installed as the president of the organization.

Pall bearers were Dr. J. W. Walles of Davis City, Dr. J. S. Coontz of Garden Grove, Dr. M. W. Rogers of Leon, Dr. C. E. Sixbury of Lamoni and Dr. Fred A. Bowman of Leon, members of the Decatur County Medical Society and Dr. C. H. Mitchell of Indianola, a former resident of Leon.

He attended the rual school and then entered Leon High school graduating in 1892. He graduated from the Rush Medical College, Chicago in 1896. He then took a post graduate course in the Chicago Post Graduate College. He practiced in Decatur City for a time and then began practice in Leon in 1905.

He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and was local examiner in 1917 for U.S. Recruits for the army service. He was a member of the state board of health during the administration of Governor Cummins and later became president of the body. In 1931 he was elected president of the Iowa State Medical Society and was officially installed at the meeting in Sioux City. He served this county as representative in the state legislature and was a candidate before the coming primary election for state senator on the the Republican ticket from this district.

He was married to Miss Edith Hendrickson in the fall of 1907. Mrs. Eiker preceeded him in death over a year ago. There are three children who survive, Edith, supervisor of music in the scools of Parkville, Mo,; Helen, a student at Clifton Heights academy, Ottumwa, and James, a student at Wentworth Military Academy at Lexington, Mo.

[Interment was made at Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.]

BERT LEANDER EIKER was born on a farm near Decatur, Iowa, October 6, 1871, and died in a hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, May 6, 1932. Burial was at Leon. His parents were James Michael and Rhoda (Russell) Eiker. He attended rural school and was graduated from the Decatur High School in 1892. The next three years were spent in the State University of Iowa. He then entered Rush Medical College, Chicago, [Illinois] from which he received his degree in medicine in 1896. The same year he began practice at Decatur in partnership with Dr. D. W. Springsteen. In 1899 he was elected representatives, and as re-elected in 1901, serving in the Twenty-eight and Twenty-ninth general assemblies.

The year of 1905-06 he spent in the Post Graduate Hospital in Chicago. In October, 1906, he located in Leon where he practiced until the time of his death. From 1906 until 1913 he was a member of the State Board of Health. In 1917 he was a local examiner for U. S. recruits to the army. He achieved reputation in his profession, was prominent in many medical associations, local, state, and national, was elected president of the Iowa State Medical Society in 1931, and was attending the meeting of the society at Sioux City at the time of his death.
