Gary Lee Easton, age 71 of Kellerton, Iowa, the son of John Edward and Marjorie (Fitch) Easton, was born February 11, 1940 at Van Wert, Iowa. He died at his home in Kellerton on Saturday, March 26, 2011.
Gary was raised around Weldon, Iowa and lived in Decatur county until he enlisted and served in the Marine Corp from November 3, 1958 until November 2, 1961. From 1973 until 1977 he served in the Army National Guard. He was currently a member of the Kellerton American Legion Post #676.
On January 26, 1968 Gary was welcomed into a large family who loved him as their own son and brother when he married Cheryl Kaye (Norris) Helton. Kaye's two sons, Lyle and Allan, became his family along with his own son, Phillip.
Gary was an over-the-raod truck driver for many years. He was later a mechanic on tractors and cars and then went to work for Wood-Link in Mount Ayr, Iowa, until his retirement at age 62.
Gary loved bird, deer and coon hunting as well as fishing. He had show dogs and had won numerous trophies in dog competitions in both Iowa and Missouri. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. One of Gary's special memories was taking a fishing trip to Canada with son Lyle and grandson Terence.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Colene; infant son, Steven; brother Harold Easton, and sisters, Joyce Norris and Leora Whitham.
Survivors include his wife, Kaye, of Kellerton, Iowa; four sons, Mike Easton of Seymour, Iowa, Lyle Helton and Joni of Bloomfield, Iowa, Allan Helton and Sherrie of Newton, Iowa, and Phillip Easton and Kate of Aberdeen, South Dakota; six grandchildren, Trent, Terence, Taylor, Lindsey, Justyne and Brenden; brothers, Charlie and Joyce Easton and Dale and Sheryl Easton, all of Leon, Iowa, and Art and Connie Easton of Weldon, Iowa; sisters, Shirley Pyle and Lois and Gene Cannon, all of Leon, Iowa; brother-in-law, Bob Norris of Humeston, Iowa; Kaye's family, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon Wednesday, March 30, 2011, with Rev. Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery in Leon.
