Obituary ~ Ola Kathleen "Kate" (Johnson) Hampton
August 14, 1926 ~ August 9, 2016

Ola Kathleen Hampton was the definition of a true class act. She died on August 9, 2016, merely five days before her 90th birthday. She was born August 14, 1926, in Harrison County, Missouri, to Frank Wayne, Sr. and Bonnie Pearl (McLain) Johnson.

Kate was on the only daughter in a family of six children. She attended and graduated from Cainsville High School in Cainsville, Missouri with the Class of 1944. On February 25, 1947, she married Martin Samuel “Newt” Hampton in Olathe, Kansas. They were blessed with one son, Stephan.

Kate was a wife, mother, homemaker, and a friend to many. She cooked for one of the fraternity houses at Drake University for a couple of years. She loved spending time with her family, attending family reunions, and following the Iowa Hawkeye men’s basketball team. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and shopping at her local Fareway store in Indianola where all the employees were so good to her.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Newt Hampton; son, Stephan Hampton; and brother, Frank Johnson.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Mary Bryant of Des Moines, Iowa; grandson, Steffan Hampton and companion, Melissa Howard, of Des Moines; brothers, Wilbur Johnson and wife, Betty of Elkhorn, Iowa, Duane Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri, Don Johnson of Nashville, Tennessee, and Bill Graham and wife, Jackie of Moravia, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2016, at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to HCI of Central Iowa in Kate’s memory.
