Leon, Decatur County, IowaLori Sue Fulkerson, age 52, of Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Harold John and Sandra Sue (Dale) Erickson, was born February 18, 1964, at Nevada, Iowa in Story County. She left this life from the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa on Saturday, October 8, 2016.
Lori grew up and attended school in the Leon, Iowa area. She graduated from Central Decatur High School in 1982. She met her future husband, Steven Michael Fulkerson, while she was working at a restaurant in Leon. They were married on June 25, 1983, in the New Salem Baptist Church south of Leon. She then attended Des Moines Area Community College for a year of secretarial training. She won awards for her ability to type, do shorthand, and proofread. The couple moved back to Leon following her graduation. They lived above the bank before moving to their rural home.
Over the years, Lori worked for Decatur County Magistrate Court, in the office for the City of Leon, and then became deputy recorder for Decatur County. In her free time, Lori enjoyed working out everyday and always had a healthy lifestyle. She was a music fan and knew how to play the piano and the clarinet.
Lori had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for the smile she wore so often. She touched the hearts of so many with her kindness and contagious happiness.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Harold and Sandy Erickson; and grandparents, Harold and June Erickson and Joe and Glada Dale.
Survivors include her husband, Steve Fulkerson of Leon; sisters-in-law, Kim Moore and husband Dan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Michelle Baldwin of Inglis, Florida; niece, who was like a daughter to her, Eva Baldwin of Biloxi, Mississippi; nephews, Kevin Moore of Cedar Rapids and Trey Baldwin and wife, Elizabeth of Lamoni, Iowa; great niece, Dreya Williams and great nephew, Caden Williams, whom she considered to be her grandchildren; great nephew, Jonah Baldwin; parents-in-law, John and Linda Fulkerson of Inglis; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the New Salem Baptist Church south of Leon, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2016, with Pastor Dale Short officiating. Burial will be in the New Salem Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Journey for Joy in Lori’s memory.
