March 23, 1926 ~ September 08, 1999

Leon Journal-Reporter
Leon, Decatur County, Iowa
October 01, 1896

Glen Walter Nichols, the son of Don Obert and Gertrude Ann (Stogdill) Nichols, was born on March 23, 1926 in Beaconsfield, Iowa, and died Wednesday, September 7, 1999 at his home in Grand River, Iowa, at the age of 73 years.

Glen graduated from Lamoni High School and attended Iowa State University for one year before joining the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II. After the war he attended Chicago Trade School for Mechanics.

On April 8, 1949 he married Helen Marie French at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Lana, Linda, LeAnn, Kelly, and Jerri.

Glen was Superintendent of various rock quarries owned and operated by S. B. Stuck, the E. I. Sargents, and finally Martin Marietta Aggregates. He retired in 1989 after 39 years. Glen and Helen purchased the Warrick farm in 1972 and enjoyed spending his retirement farming and spending time with their family and grand kids. He also loved to read westerns by Zane Grey and Louis A 'Mour.

He was a member of Charles Ladd Post #215 and the Masonic Lodge in Grand River.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, parents, and nephew Don O. Nichols.

Those he leaves to cherish him memory are his wife, Helen Nichols of Grand River; children: Lana Taylor and husband Robert of Grand River; Linda Burton and husband Barry of Ridgeway, Missouri; LeAnn Boles and husband Terry of Grand River; Kelly Nichols of Grand River; and Jerri Stewart of Ellston, Iowa; 12 grandchildren: Nathan and Adam Taylor; Laura and Sarah Burton; Eric, Misty, and Shawna Boles; Trevin, Sierra, and Cody Nichols; and Andrea and Rebecca Stewart; sister Reba Carder and husband Al of Redmond, Oregon; brother Lloyd Nichols and wife Eunice of Albia, Iowa; brother-in-law Joe French of Rensselaer, New York; and other relatives and friends.

He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Remember me not in tears, but in laughter;
Not in pain, but in joy;
Not in fear, but with love;
For the good times we have had together out weigh the bad.

Hold me not in your arms, but in your heart;
Not in body, but rather in spirirt;
For to hold me deep within your soul is to keep alive forever.
