Robert Eldon Jimmerson, age 80, of Grand River, Iowa, the son of Henry Samuel and Bessie Adella (Chipp) Jimmerson, was born on February 11, 1921. He died at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday, June 20, 2001.

Robert, or Bob as he was known to his friends, grew up on a farm near Grand River. He served in the United States Army from December 21, 1942 until his honorable discharge on January 2, 1946. He was stationed in the Southern Philippines and in Australia.

On June 30, 1948 Robert married Halcyon Louise Strunce in Creston, Iowa. They made their home in Grand River and raised two children, Francie and Bob. Robert drove a truck and did some other odd jobs before renting a gas station in Grand River in 1956. He build the current building of Jimmerson Service across the street from the one he rented in 1967. He also drove a school bus for Grand Valley Schools for a few years.

He was a member of the American Legion, a volunteer fireman for Grand River, and on the Grand River City Council. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed gardening, watching country western movies, and collecting country western comic books. He enjoyed and loved the quality time spent with his three grandchildren.

Robert ran the station up until rencently, even though he wasn't in good health, thans to the help of Dave Moren, who has been a valuable employee since 1973. Robert found great pleasure in the many kids who came into his station over the years. [Transcriber's Note: He also greatly enjoyed the last day of the school year when the bus drivers would pull up to his station and treat the rural students riding their buses a candy bar and a bottle of soda pop.] He also was known to accept any middle of the night call in fair weather or blizzard to help the stranded.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Lloyd and Elbert Jimmerson; and sister Juanita Overholtzer.

Survivors include his wife Halcyon Jimmerson of Grand River; daughter Francie Ahrens of Creston; son Bob Jimmerson of Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren: Ami Ahrens, Andrea Jimmerson, and Scott Jimmerson; sister Vera Blades of Mount Ayr; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were June 22 at the Grand River United Methodist Church, the Rev. Rick Hawkins officiating. Pianist was JoAnn Boles. Soloist was Julie Weisshaar.

Casket bearers were David Blades, Gary Jimmerson, Duane Blades, Melvis Jimmerson, Danny Jimmerson and Ronald Jimmerson. Hornorary bearers were Dean Blades, Max Greenland, Ron Boles, Burnell Jimmerson, Ralph Evans and Dave Moren.

Interment was in Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Arrangements were by Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home, Leon and Lamoni.
