Obituary ~ Shirley Jane (Phillips) Rogers
July 02 1890 ~ January 10, 1971

SHIRLEY JANE ROGERS was born on July 2, 1890, near Oakland, Iowa, the daughter of THOMAS B. and SARAH KENNEDY PHILLIPS. She was one of ten children. She received her education in the public schools of the county.

On December 31, 1914, she was united in marriage to IRA ROSCOE ROGERS. They farmed near Oakland until 1920 when they moved to a farm near Van Wert. They lived in the Van Wert and Weldon areas until her husband's death in 1954. Since that time she had lived and worked in Leon and Des Moines.

She became a member of the Methodist Church at an early age and was a memeber of the Loving Chapel United Methodist Church, Leon, at the time of her death. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters and two brothers. Surviving are her two daughters and their families, RILMA and ALBERT DRISKILL, Van Wert, and RUTH SIMMS, Takoma Park, Md.; four grandchildren: SUSAN SULLIVAN and DOYLE DRISKILL, Iowa City; MARY FITZPATRICK and KAY SIMMS, Takoma Park; two great grandchildren BRENDA and JAMIE LYNN FITZPATRICK; two sisters, IRENE BURGETT, Council Bluffs, and STELLA GILLESPIE, Oakland; one brother, CLIFTON PHILLIPS, Carson; two sisters-in-law; ALAMANDA WILLIAMS, Ft. Madison, and BELLE PHILLIPS, Atlantic; one brother-in-law, CLAUDE McCONNELL, Atlantic; nieces and nephews.

Mrs. ROGERS was called home to be with the Lord very unexpectedly Sunday morning, January 10, (1971), while at her apartment in Leon.
