Obituary ~ Laura "Blanche" (Grimm) Coon
January 17, 1904 ~ December 16, 2002

Laura Blanche Grimm Coon, the daughter of George Washington and Anna Burchett Grimm, was born Jan. 17, 1904, in Decatur County and died Dec. 16, 2002, at Osceola Nursing and Rehab Center. She was 98.

She married Myron Coon on March 26, 1927, in Creston. Mr. Coon died Dec. 22, 1990.

Mrs. Coon was a homemaker and farmwife on the couple’s farm in the Hopeville area. The couple retired and moved to Murray in 1973. Mrs. Coon moved to Osceola Nursing and Rehab Center in February of 1991.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Marilyn Louise in infancy and Janice Irving in Oct. 1982; the two boys she and her husband raised Sidney and John Braathen who was killed in World War II and six sisters and five brothers.

Mrs. Coon is survived by a grandson, Kevin Irving and a son-in-law, Jay Irving, both of Afton.

Services were at 1 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Hopeville United Methodist Church, where Mrs. Coon and her husband were members. Pastor Dwayne Henrichs of Thayer conducted the service. Burial was in the Gregg Cemetery, southeast of of Hopeville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hopeville United Methodist Church.

Powers Funeral Home of Afton was in charge of arrangements.
