September 18, 1928 ~ January 21, 2016

Gerald Arthur Sullivan, age 87, of Leon, Iowa, was born September 18, 1928, at Osceola, Iowa, the son of Arthur Joseph and Minnie Madeline (Silvers) Sullivan. He passed away on January 21, 2016, at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa.

Bud started school in Weldon and also attended at LeRoy, where he was raised. He liked playing baseball. He worked for the Williams Pipeline and in the wheat fields of South Dakota before he started farming and driving school bus. It was during this time that he met his future wife, Phyllis Ann Sanders. On February 12, 1949, they were united in marriage. Two children were born to this union, Connie Rae and Gary Lynn.

Bud and Phyllis started farming with a B John Deere tractor and a team of black horses. Bud belonged to the Humeston Saddle Club and enjoyed taking his family to horse shows and on fishing trips.

In later years, Bud and Phyllis enjoyed attending all the jam sessions and also coon hunting on their mules. They camped and trail rode a lot. They also went to Texas two or three months in the winters. When they could, Bud enjoyed watching the grandkids play basketball and baseball and teasing them.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-laws, Eldon and Ruth Sanders; sister, Wilma Richmond and husband George; and brothers-in-law, Tom Warford and Orlan Sanders and wife Betty. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Phyllis Sullivan of Leon, Iowa; daughter, Connie Courcier and husband Jim, of Osceola, Iowa; son, Gary Sullivan and wife Denise, of Atlantic, Iowa; grandchildren, Robyn Sullivan and Mike Parker of Atlantic, Cory Courcier and Tracie of Norwalk, Iowa, Jake Sullivan and Stephanie of Ellsworth, South Dakota, Rick Courcier of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, and Joe Sullivan and Karen Lamer of Iowa City, Iowa; great grandchildren, Barly Riesgarrd, Tyson, Zayden, and Raya Parker, Megyn and Ryan Courcier, and Jack and Eli Sullivan; sister, Evah Warford of Kansas City, Missouri; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2016, with Charles Coffey officiating. Burial will be in the Garden Grove Cemetery, Garden Grove, Iowa.
