Obituary ~ Agnes Virginia (Nielsen) Saxton
December 26, 1928 - February 01, 2016Agnes Virginia Saxton, age 87, of Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Jens L. and Elise Frediricka Julietta (Jorgensen) Nielsen, was born December 26, 1928, at Atlantic, Iowa. She left this life on Monday, February 1, 2016, at Westview Acres in Leon, Iowa.
Agnes was one of eleven children. She learned at a young age to both work and share to help the family. Agnes and Russel Johnson Saxton were married on April 4, 1947. Agnes graduated from Atlantic High School in May of 1947. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. Agnes was a gracious, caring woman who made many sacrifices for her family. She always worried about her family and took great care of them, especially Russel. She enjoyed reading and collecting cookbooks and chicken and hen knick knacks. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Leon.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Russel on October 19, 2013; daughter-in-law, Vicki Saxton; and nine siblings, Lars Nielsen, Thelma McCrory, Dagney Roberts, Clara Miller, LeRoy Nielsen, Jimmy Nielsen, Harvey Nielsen, Frank Nielsen, and Karen Nielsen.
Survivors include her children, Priscilla & Ralph Croxdale of Marshalltown, Iowa, Steve & Thelma Saxton of Chariton, Iowa, Mark Saxton of Leon, Iowa, and Jay & Carol Saxton of Leon; seven grandchildren, Tessica & Eric Parsons, Mariah Croxdale, Sean & Beth Saxton, Erin & Tony Dykes, Lathum & Rose Saxton, Marci Saxton and companion Steve Cummings, Garret Saxton and companion Kelly; step-grandchildren, Kathryn Trimble, Bud & Tara Trimble, Jake & Jennifer Trimble, Latisha & Jake McQuire, and Ann Trimble; great grandchildren, Cash Parsons, Cadence Parsons, Lauren Saxton, Mara Dykes, Nash Dykes, Paige Saxton and companion Evan, Dain & Brandon Rudolf, and Caitlyn Saxton and companion Nick; great, great grandchildren, Braylen Herring and Rhyott Rudolf; brother, Dale Nielsen and wife LaVila of Johnston, Iowa; sister-in-law, Arvis McKeane of Minneapolis, Minnesota; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Leon, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2016, with Pastor J.R. Wheeler officiating. Burial of both Agnes and husband, Russel, will follow at the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.
A memorial fund has been established by the Family.
