Obituary ~ Margaret Marie (Culver) Wood Pieken
February 09, 1926 ~ December 26, 2002

Margaret Marie Pieken, one of three children of Noel Carl and Luella Jennings Culver, was born on February 9, 1926 at Grand River, Iowa. Margaret attended the Maloy, Iowa, Benton, Iowa, and Mt. Ayr, Iowa schools. She later earned her GED in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

On December 7, 1946, Margaret married Leonard Douglas Wood. They made their home in Clearfield, Iowa and were blessed with two children, Gary and Connie Jo.

In 1953, Margaret began work as a clothing clerk at the Glenwood State Hospital School in Glenwood, Iowa. She and Earl Edward Pieken were united in marriage on February 14, 1955. Earl's daughters Judith and Janice joined the family and they were blessed with a son, Hobbie.

Margaret worked at the Glenwood State Hospital School for 35 years before retiring in 1988. That same year, Margaret and Earl moved to Emerson, Iowa where they made many new friends and Margaret was a member of the Emerson United Methodist Church. In 1998, due to ill health, Earl moved to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Villisca, Iowa and in 2001, Margaret moved to an apartment in Glenwood.

Margaret and Earl had been married 47 years when Earl died on July 24, 2002. Margaret's failing health forced her to move to the Tabor Manor Care Center in Tabor, Iowa on September 24, 2002.

Margaret died at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa on December 26, 2002 having attained the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 18 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl Pieken, brother Raymond Culver, and sister Maxine George.

She is survived by her daughters Judith Gladwin of Ft. Collins, CO, Janice Irick of Glenwood, and Connie Parks and husband Layne of Glenwood; sons Hobbie Pieken and wife Mari Jo of Silver City, Iowa and Gary Wood of Emerson, Iowa; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Loess Hill Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
