Obituary ~ Robert "Dean" Pierce
June 15, 1931 ~ December 30, 2015

Robert Dean Pierce, age 84, of Lamoni, Iowa, the son of James Henry and Jessie Belle (Cook) Pierce, was born June 15, 1931, at Ridgeway, Missouri. He left this life on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at the Lamoni Nursing and Rehab Center in Lamoni.

Dean graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1949. He was always good with words and spelling and was a good typist. He then entered the United States Air Force. He served for four years, his first year in Louisiana, two years in Germany, then back to Louisiana for his last year. While in the service, Dean was married to Greta Marie Salmon on October 6, 1951, in Missouri. They lived in Louisiana before his honorable discharge on October 15, 1954, when they moved to Bethany, Missouri.

Most of Dean's adult working life was spent working for the Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline Company, although the name changed many times over the years. He moved for his job, so the family lived in Missouri, Kansas, and Iowa. He retired from the Pipeline then he dove into his other interests. He started his own business, Dean's TV, which later became Dean's Cablevision. He had the rights to Lamoni and ten other communities in northern Missouri to provide cable TV. He later sold them and retired to take up golf. He loved sports and played slow pitch softball until he was 51 years old. In younger days, he tried out for the St. Louis Cardinal baseball team. While stationed in Germany, he played baseball on the Air Force team. Dean enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked birddogs and raised Brittany puppies. His loves were, Iowa State University, John F. Kennedy, Bing Crosby, coffee, sweet corn, and Christmas music. Dean also had a great sense of humor.

He was a member of a cable TV trade organization and was honored in their magazine. He was also a member of the Lamoni Country Club and enjoyed helping out there.

Preceding him in death were his parents and nine siblings, Charles Franklin Pierce, Leland Ray Pierce, Glen Harvey Pierce, Lloyd Gerald Pierce, James Leonard Pierce, Asa Dee Pierce, Joseph Morton Pierce, Roberta Faye Bennett, and Alice Arvon Ragan. Survivors include his wife, Greta Pierce of Lamoni; children, Teresa & Chris Stoll of Lamoni, Tina & Keith Fine of Milford, Kansas, and David & Jennifer Pierce of Granger, Iowa; six grandchildren, Ashley & Thom Edwards, Brett Boswell, Kyle & Kallie Stoll, Chase & Danica Stoll, Jordan Pierce, and Hunter Pierce; great grandchildren, Sawyer Stoll and soon to be born, Nola Stoll; brother, Richard Pierce and wife Veda Rose of Grain Valley, Missouri; sister, Mary Jo Vandiver of Bethany, Missouri; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Lamoni United Methodist Church in Lamoni, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2016. Visitation is prior to the service with Family receiving friends 9:30-10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Miriam Cemetery, Bethany, Missouri.
