M.F. LINDSEY, of St.
Joseph, Mo., passed away Wednesday of last
week at the home of her
daughter, MRS. NELLIE JONES, at Benson, a
suburb of Omaha. A message was
received by relatives here a few hours after
the death, conveying the
sad news. The funeral services were held
from the home of her daughter
on Friday afternoon. MRS. WOODARD will be
remembered by many of the
older residents of Leon. For many years she
has been a resident of
Omaha and for a time resided in Council

OBITUARY

SARAH LINDSEY WOODARD, second daughter of
SAMUEL and ELIZA LINDSEY, was
born in Fayette County, Ohio, March ll, l847,
and departed this life
January l3, l9l5, at Omaha, Nebraska.

She was married to ISAAC B. WOODARD, in l865.
To this union were born
three children: WADE L. WOODARD, MRS. JENNIE
GILLITTE, and MRS. NELLIE
JONES, who were all at her bedside when the
end came. In a letter
written by MRS. NELLIE WOODARD JONES, to her
aunt, MRS. HATTIE SULLIVAN,
of Leon, she tells of the sickness and death
of her mother and how she
was laid away, as follows:

"After several months of helplessness, caused
by creeping paralysis and
a general breakdown, came the end. She was
very patient and
uncomplaining to the very last, with good
hearing and good eye sight
which allowed her to read her Bible with
understanding, which was a
great pleasure to her, being a Christian from
childhood. She slept away
the afternoon of the l3th of January, l9l5,
as peacefully as a baby.
The remains were taken to the undertakers
chapel, as is the custom here,
and more central for friends. The casket was
of steel gray brocaded
velvet, lined with cream brocaded silk
overing, soft padding which with
a cream messaline silk dress, made her look
so comfortable and
beautiful. I never saw her look so sweet.
The family had a floral
pillow with "Mother" on it and flowers from
friends that were beautiful
indeed, but when we went to the chapel for
services it surely looked as
if there had been a great shower of the most
beautiful flowers eyes ever
looked upon. Many bouquets without names.
How lovely of the doners;
how such kindness helps to soothe the aching
heart. We would love to
have taken her to Leon but could not bear the
thought of her being so
far away. The cemetery is only about a mile
away from us."

A clipping from the home paper published at
Benson, a suburb of Omaha:

"After several months of ill health MRS.
SARAH WOODARD, aged 67, died
Wednesday at the home of her son, W.L.
WOODARD, in Omaha. Funeral
services were conducted by Rev. A.J. McClung
today at Dodder's
undertaking rooms and interment made at Mount
Hope Cemetery."

"Her daughters, MRS. WALTER JONES and MRS.
GILLITTE, and her
granddaughter, MRS. RUSSELL WALSH, are
residents in this city."

MRS. WOODARD leaves besides her children, two
sisters, MRS. W.J.
SULLIVAN and MRS. A.J. MARTIN, of Leon, and
two brothers, WADE LINDSEY,
of Leon, and M.F. LINDSEY, of St. Joseph, Mo.
