Obituary.

LYMAN P. MILLS was born in Leon, Iowa, July 24, 1883. He died at Des Moines, Iowa. April 16, 1890, and was buried in the Leon cemetery April 18, 1890. He was the son of J. W. and ETTA MILLS, who have been living in Des Moines, Iowa, about two years.

The accident that caused Lyman Mills' sudden death so far as known to his parents are about as follows: LYMAN, with his little sister, KITTIE, about 5 years of age, had spent the afternoon of April 16th with some little friends north of Locust street in Des Moines, and about 6 p. m. were returning to their home on East 7th Street, between Walnut and Locust. When they came to Locust street an electric street car was coming from either direction. Little LYMAN took his sister by the hand and both started across on the run. They crossed just behind the west bound car and he was immediately struck by the east bound car and instantly killed. A stranger caught the little sister as thus saved her life.

LYMAN was a bright, active boy, loved by all who knew him and the light and life of the pleasant home so deeply shadowed by his sudden death. It has been wisely said, “Brief life is here our portion.”

In this sad bereavement, though our heearts bleed for the loss of our loved one, yet we remember it was a Father’s hand and great mercy is somewhere hidden in the dark gloom that settled about us. Our Father know best, and though we shall hear the patter of his feet or the sweet music of his voice no more in this world, we will put away the little play things and trinkets that were his and he shall over be fresh in our memory and shall constitute a loving link to bind our hearts to the throne eternal, and so live that when our Father shall call us we may be reunited with the loved one gone before where no accidents happen, where sin, or sorrow, or death is and all tears shall be wiped from our eyes.
