Thurman Kleath Leonard, M.D. passed away in his sleep at home on September 25, 2003 at the age of 82. Thurman was born in a big snow storm, April 17, 1921 to Rolly and Eurith Leonard in Humeston, Iowa. He graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1939. He received his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1946.

Thurman married his wife of 57 years, February 21, 1947. He served in the Army of Occupation from 1947-1950 at the 361st US Army Hospital as a First Lieutenant in Tokyo, Japan.

He was proud to have kept his medical degree active throughout his life. He practiced medicine in Madrid, Iowa for 20 years. In 1971 the family moved to Flagstaff, Arizona where he served as faculty with the Northern Arizona University Student Health Service. He transferred in 1974 to the University of Arizona Student Health Service until his retirement in 1990.

He is survived by his wife Anna, his three children Patricia Sayers (Steve), grandchildren, Mark and Amanda; Tina Green (Jeff) grandchildren, Sarah and Jake; and Alan Leonard.

Friends may call at Adair Funeral Home, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. [Tucson, Arizona], on Monday, September 29, 2003 from 5-8 pm. Funeral service will be held at Catalina Foothills Church on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at 4 pm. Interment at a later date in Iowa.

Adair Funeral Home, Dodge Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
