GRACE PALONA JOHNSTON daughter of WINFIELD and NANCY MCKEE, was born Oct. 31, 1894 in Decatur County near Van Wert, Iowa, and died at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa, age 88 years, 8 months and 5 days.

Her early life was spent in the Van Wert area and then in Leon where she gained a great number of friends.

On February 24, 1911 she was married to JAMES PERRY JOHNSTON of near Lineville. To this union were born two children, CHESTER and DARRELL.

Preceding her in death were her husband, PERRY; parents; one brother and five sisters.

Surviving are: 2 sons: CHESTER and wife, VIOLET, of Keokuk, Iowa; and DARRELL and wife ROVA, Leon; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

After being married she spent her life in the vicinity of Leon, farming with her family and later moving to town where she will long be remembered for her hind-hearted attitude toward her neighbors. She was always ready and willing to sympathize with friends in need.

She accepted Christ as her Savior in her early life and her faith was renewed in later life. She was baptized and a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene. [Interment was made at Leon Cemetery.]
