On Tuesday, March 24, 2015, Earl Jennings Hayton asked if we would let you know that his work on earth is done. He received a call, the kind of call one can't refuse, for an appointment from which he is not returning. This assignment comes with a huge bonus - a reunion with long lost family and friends that he has not seen in years. Job security is exactly 110 percent. For those who know him, knew his long life ambition was to make it big in music. He wants you to know that his audition for the "Angels Band" was a huge success. His new mission takes him to a wonderful musical place where he will be singing his heart out, fishing with the cowboys and John Wayne, and working on old cars to his heart's content. Music, laughter and love are guaranteed! A place where he can eat as much ice cream, hamburgers, and potatoes and will never gain an ounce. He left detailed instructions for his wife and family to celebrate his life he had on earth, for now he is celebrating with Christ. He wants you to know, that while he loved encouraging children to expand their musical talents by buying them guitars and singing with them, it was playing with kids, animals, singing at the Iowa State Fair, Hopeville Fest, Iowa Barber Shop, County Songfests, and churches that gave him great satisfaction. One of his wishes on earth was to make it big in the music world. While his name does not appear on the top 10 music hits, it was being hired to sing at "Dolly World" that gave him hope. Now he has the greatest job around - singing with the angels!

Earl was born December 2nd, 1928, in Independence, Missouri and at the age of 8 was baptized into the RLDS/Community of Christ Church. It was 61 years ago he met a beautiful nursing student, Elvalena Blakesley, and after courting for 1 year they were married on July 1, 1955. In that blessed marriage they gave forth four children, Laura, Gary, Thomas, and Dianna. Added with love is their expanded family, Greg & Nancy Clark and Charlene, along with grandkids, David, Joshua, Dustin, Erin, Joel, Eric, Robert, Jenni, Nate, Josh, Autumn, Janelle and Ami, and their spouses, great-grandkids, in-laws, Bud and Rosalie, Jan and the late Mitch Blakesley and their families. A previous marriage gave him Penny, Candi, and their families.

In Heaven, he is meeting his son ,Gary, his parents, George and Marie (Oliver) Hayton, and his sister, Doris Lake, along with many other family and friends.

Earl, was a retired mechanic, carpenter, and well known as someone whom always was willing to lend a helping hand. He loved children and a drove school bus for the Central Decatur County School district for many years. Earl is a Korean Veteran and served six years in the United States Navy as a SEA BEE, where he honed his mechanical and carpentry skills. He is with the Lord now and at peace.

Funeral services will be at the Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015, with Elder Tony Crandell officiating. Burial will be in the Hamilton Cemetery, Pleasanton, Iowa at a later date.
