HAROLD GENE HATFIELD, son of ALVA and MYRTLE (GOBEN) HATFIELD, was born Dec. 24, 1944 in Clarke County, Iowa, and died July 11, 1978 in Clarke County age 33 years and 7 months.

GENE attended Van Wert School. He served his country one year in the United States and one year in Vietnam [SP4] where he received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. He was in the active Reserves 2 years and recently enlisted in the National Guard Reserves.

GENE was united in marriage to PATRICIA (PAT) VIRDEN Sept. 15, 1968. To this union was born one son, TIMOTHY GENE.

At the time of his death he was engaged in farming and working for the Burlington-Northern Railroad of Osceola.

He is survived by widow PATRICIA; son TIMMY of the home; parents of Decatur; 2 brothers, JERRY and wife JANIE, Van Wert; and ROBERT and wife DONNA, Weldon; 2 sisters-in-law, DORTHY PARMER, Van Wert; and BETTY HATFIELD, Decatur; father-in-law and mother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. AUBRY VIRDEN, Leon; 2 brothers-in-law, RON VIRDEN and wife DIXIE, Leon; RICK VIRDEN, in service in Germany; one sister-in-law, LOUIS INGRAM and husband EARL, San Diego, Calif.; several aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.

[Interment was made at Van Wert Cemetery.]
