LORENE AUDRY GILBERT, age 61 years, 7 months and 25 days, of Van Wert, Iowa died Dec. 30, 1978 at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa, following a long illness.

LORENE was born May 5, 1917 at Van Wert, Iowa, to HOYLE and MARIE MCCONNELL. She lived in the Van Wert community except two years which she spent in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was a graduate of the Van Wert High School.

On Sept. 1, 1934 she became the bride of ELMER GILBERT and unto this union five children were born: CONNIE CLAUSEN and husband GAIL, South Sioux City, Neb.; GLEN GILBERT and wife SHIRLEY, Van Wert; KAREN DEFENBAUGH and husband LARRY, Indianola, Iowa; GLORIA McCLURE and husband DON, Van Wert; and KENNY GILBERT and wife JUANITA, Denison, Iowa.

Survivors are husband; mother, MARIE DETRICK, Osceola, Iowa; five children; three sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother DEAN McCONNELL, Valley Falls, Kans.; sister, DOROTHEA SAMSON, Kennewick Wash.

Preceding her in death were father and on sister

She was a member of the Van Wert Assembly of God Church.
