Obituary ~ Ora “Ileen” (Lowe) Brierly

Ora “Ileen” Brierly, daughter of Wesley and Florence Lowe, was born Nov. 27, 1913, in Weldon and died Aug. 13, 2003, at the Indianola Good Samaritan Center. She was 89.

She attended Weldon schools and graduated from high school in 1931. She married Charles Daniel Brierly on Dec. 22, 1933, in Osceola and they became the parents of three children, Flo, Wendell and Twyla.

Mrs. Brierly was a homemaker. She loved to embroider, do crossword puzzles and garden. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ophir Chapter 267 in Osceola. She was also a former member of the White Shrine and attended the Christian Church in Weldon.

Mrs. Brierly lived in Weldon until she moved to Des Moines to live with her daughter for three years before moving to the Indianola Good Samaritan Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1998; and a sister, Lois Fairall.

Mrs. Brierly is survived by two daughters, Flo Blanchard and her husband, Russell Blanchard, of Des Moines and Twyla Polvani and her husband, Tony Polvani of Las Vegas, Nev.; a son, Wendell Brierly and his wife, Linda Brierly, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Joel Brierly and Leslie Brierly of Springfield, Mo., Angel Blanchard, Lisa Onder, and Bob Blanchard of Des Moines, Michelle Crosson and Dan Easter of Scottsdale, Ariz., Stacy Mason of Phoenix, Ariz., Teri Acosta of Tucson, Ariz,; twenty great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a brother, Uriel “Wendell” Lowe of Sun City, Ariz. as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Brierly were Aug. 18 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, the Rev. Hugh Stone of the Osceola United Methodist Church officiating. Organist Pennie Gonseth accompanied Emil Rinderspacher as he sang Amazing Grace and In the Garden.

Casket bearers were Robert Blanchard, Shawn Blanchard and Troy Onder. Eastern Star services were presented by Ophir Chapter No. 267 Order of the Eastern Star. Interment was in Chaney Cemetery in rural Clarke County.
