DEATH CAME PEACEFULLY TO BANCROFT LADY OF NINETY-TWO YEARS.

Elizabth Carmean, aged mother of Geo. Carmean, popular Bancroft druggist, died at his home last Friday evening [May 18, 1928]. Mrs. Carmean was probably the oldest person in this community, and up until the past few months had carried her years with care. For the past fourteen years she had made her home with her son, Geo. in Bancroft, her husband having preceded her in death about twenty-five years ago. Brief services were held at the home Saturday afternoon, Rev. Rice oficiating, and burial was made at Leon, Iowa in the family lot. The pall bearers at th services in Bancroft were Mr. B. Goddard, Mr. C. P. Hanson, Mr. G. D. H[illegible], Mr. L. F. Kennedy, Mr. R. L. Rossan and Mr. J. H. Menke.

Immediately after th services, the funeral party left for Burt where they took the train for Leon where they arrived at noon Sunday. Mrs. Carmean had made a host of friends in Bancroft during her residence here and her assing, while expected, came as a distinct shock to many.

OBITUARY.

Elizabeth Tennant, daughter of George and Susannah Tennant, was born in the State of Ohio, Jan., 9, 1836, and came to Des Moines county, Iowa, in 1856. In settling the religious question of her life, she in early womanhood, became a member of the Presbyterian church.

She was married to Joshua Carmean in about the year 1860. To this union was born four children: Flora, Samuel, George and Ella. The family came to Leon, Iowa where the children grew to young womanhood and manhood. Mrs. Carmean's later years have been spent with her son George and family of Bancroft, where on May 18th she passed away at the age of 92 years, 5 months and 9 days.

She is survived by her son George, two brothers, Robert J. Tennant of Indianola, Iowa, and George A. Tennant of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; and also four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her husband and other members of her immediate family preceded her in death. Her physical and mental faculties were so remarkably prserved and her activities so constant to at nearly the last that she will be greatly missed, especially in the home where she appeared to be so thoroughly contended, and where such kindly attention was given her till her release came.

The officiating minister at the services at Leon was Rev. Luther Wesley Kurts, and the pall bearers there were Mr. O. E. Hull, Mr. H. Farquah, Mr. J. A. Caster, Mr. S. C. Penniwell, Mr. F. M. Osborn, Mr. L. P. VanWerden.

Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. R. J. Tennant, Indianola, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Tennant, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Tennant and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Rogers, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tremble and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Elois Tremble, Mrs. Christina Tennant, Mr. and Mrs. Elwin Gleason, of Mt. Ayr; and Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Wright, of Des Moines.
