Obituary ~ Joseph Arnold Perry
March 01, 1946 ~ January 17, 2013Joseph Arnold Perry, 66, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at the VA Medical Center in Topeka.
Joe was born March 1, 1946, at Leon, Iowa, the son of Eugene F. and Arlie Ione (Hill) Perry. He grew up in Lamoni, Iowa, and graduated from Lamoni High School in 1966. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in Viet Nam from 1966 through 1968. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Joe returned to Iowa, where he worked in a service station.
On December 20, 1970, he was married to June Marie Braby at Eagleville, Missouri, and they would be the parents of two sons. They were later divorced.
They moved to Burlington, Kansas, in 1971, where Joe went to work for Gene Bolton at Bolton Oil and later at S&S Sales. He operated a Fina service station for a time, and in the 1980s he owned and operated Perry Tire Service in downtown Burlington.
He was an active member of Congdon-Kepler Post #38 of the American Legion in Burlington. He enjoyed fishing and being with his friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Jack Perry, and a sister, Shirley Tomlinson.
He is survived by his sons, Micheal Perry, Sr., of Burlington (and fiancé Rebecca Bruza) and Jason Perry of LeRoy (and girlfriend Angela Harrison); four grandchildren and one step-grandson; his brothers and sisters, James Perry and wife Erma of Burlington, Iowa, Jane Barnes and husband Dennis of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Don Perry of Burlington, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
Family and friends will have a memorial gathering at the American Legion Post in Burlington on Tuesday, January 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Inurnment and graveside memorial services will be at a later date in Andover Cemetery at Andover, Missouri.
