John R. Peugh was born near Grand View, Iowa, on Jan. 30, 1851, and died at his home in Leon, Iowa, December 29, 1916, being 65 years, and 11 months, old. Most of his boyhood days were spent on a farm north of Leon.

On March 6, 1870, he was joined in marriage to Mary M. Martin, to which union five children were born, all of whom with their mother remain to mourn his departure. The daughter, Mrs. Mary J. Trout, of Mildred, Minn., and sons John Lewis of Magna, Utah, and Burt O. of Ft. Collins, Colo., were unable to be present; the other sons are George and Don of Leon. He is also survived by a brother, Charles Peugh, of near Leon, and a sister, Mrs. James Carr, of Shenandoah.

In 1882 John Peugh joined himself to the Holiness church and lived a consistent christian life till his death. Funeral services were held from the Brethren church, interment in Leon cemetery.
