Septembr 15, 1844 ~ January 15, 1917Mrs. Jane Halstead, widow of the late Nicholas Halstead, of Morgan township, Decatur county, Iowa, died at her home in the north part of Lineville last Monday morning, paralysis being the cause of death, she being about 72 years of age. The deceased has only been a resident of Lineville the past several years, having lived the greater part of her life in Decatur county.
She leaves 5 children to mourn the loss of a kind and gentle mother and many other relatives and friends teh passing of a noble, christian woman. The children who survive her, all born to her first marriage, are Willis Dillon and Mrs. Cyrus Wells of Morgan township, Henry and David Dillon of Oklahoma and Ned Dillon of Colorado.
Funeral services were held at the late home of the deceased Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H. E. Ryan, pastor of the M. E. church, South, interment following at Evergreen cemetery [Lineville], all of the children being present except her son Ned Dillon, of Colorado, who was unable to attend.
NOTE: Jane was born September 15, 1844, and died January 15, 1917. She was the first wife of Abraham Dillon (1843 - 1892), also interrred at Evergreen Cemetery. Jane's name on her gravestone is "Jane A. Dillon" and her age is given as 72 years, 4 months.
