Obituary ~ David A. Dancer
October 07, 1896 ~ October 11, 1982

David A. Dancer was born in Lamoni, Iowa [the son of David and Anna A. Dancer], where he attended public schools and Graceland College. He later attended the University of Washington and the University of Iowa, from which he graduated in 1917. He served two years in the US Army [as a 1st Lieutenant] during World War I before returning to farming and raising livestock. He was a charter member of the Ralph A. Judson American Legion Post at Lamoni and served ten years on the town council.

In November of 1917 he married Florence Messerli of West Union. They had three daughters [Jane, Alice, and JoAnn].

David Dancer served four terms as a [Republican] representative of Decatur County [District 6] to the Iowa General Assembly [1935 - 1943]. He served as Executive Secretary to the State Board of Regents from 1942 through 1967. He also served as Director of Alumni Relations for the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, on the board of directors of Farmers Grain and Seed company; member of Decatur County Farm Bureau; chairman of board, Lamoni Cooperative Creamery Association.

He died October 11, 1982, in Sun City, Arizona. He was survived by his wife, Florence; three daughters, Alice White of Sun City, JoAnn Stone of Backus, Minnesota, and Jane Pitkin of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
