Obituary ~ Steven A. Carter

STEVEN A. CARTER, 42, 200 Lindenwood Place, prominent Sioux City attorney, died Monday in a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a. m. Thursday in the First Lutheran Church. The Rev. RICHARD A. THOMPSON will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mr. CARTER was born Jan. 18, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa. He was raised in Leon, Iowa, where he graduated from high school. He attended George Washington University in Washington, D. C. and graduated from the College of Law at the University of Iowa in 1964.

He married MARILYN RUSCH Sept. 3, 1961, at Waterloo, Iowa. He Began his practice of law in Sioux City in 1964. He was a partner in the law firm of CARTER, SAR and EDWARDS in Sioux City.

Mr. CARTER was a member of the Woodbury County Bar Association, the Iowa State Bar Association, the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers and the First Lutheran Church where he formerly served on the church council. He headed the Steering Committee for the successful bond election authorizing the building of three new high schools in Sioux City and formerly served on the Sioux City Airport Advisory Board.

Mr. CARTER’s father, the late STEVEN V. CARTER, served in the U. S. Congress in 1958, representing southeast Iowa. Survivors include his wife; two sons, STEVEN B., a student at the University of Iowa and ERIC at home; two daughters, ANDREA and JACQUELINE, both at home; his mother, Mrs. STEVEN V. CARTER of Washington, D. C. and a brother, CHARLES L. in California.

A memorial has been established in his mane with the Cardiology Department of St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center.
