Obituary ~ Maggie (Flynn) Atkins
October 02, 1875 ~ February 08, 1899

Mrs. Maggie Flynn Atkins Was born Oct. 2, 1875, to Decatur county, Iowa, died at her home in Grimes, Iowa, Feb. 8. 1899 aged 25 years, 4 months and 6 days.

The death of Mrs. Atkins was a severe shock to a host of very warm friends in this county, where she was born and raised to womanhood. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Flynn, of Woodland township, and her youthful days were spent on the farm. Early life she expressed and desire to become a teacher and after she finished her school became one of our best teachers. An evidence of her popularity was shown in The Reporter voting contest six years ago when she was awarded a term of free schooling at Highland Park College, Des Moines, as the most popular school teachers in this county. She taught a number of successfully schools in the county and also at Des Moines and Grimes.

She was married to F. R. Atkins, of Grimes, Feb. 22, 1898, and their married life was a most happy one. A week before her death a little daughter came to brighten their happy home and it left to console the heartbroken father. Every attention was given to her, but medical skill could not save her life.

Her remains were brought to Leon Friday the funeral being held at the Catholic church in Woodland on Saturday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. Father Loftus, her remains being tenderly laid to rest in the Catholic burial grounds [St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery]. The bereaved husband, parents, brothers and sisters have the sympathy of all in their affliction.
