Obituary ~ Martin Luther Logan.
May 15, 1863 ~ July 04, 1917

Martin Luther Logan was born May 15, 1863, on the old J.E. Logan homestead in Decatur County. He died at the old J.E. Logan homestead on July 4, 1918, aged 54 years, 1 month and 19 days. He was the son of J.E. Logan and Millie Ann Logan, of precious memory in this community. Practically all of his life has been spent in Decatur county. On July 22, 1886, he was married to Lorena Hawkins. To this union waas born four children, Lelia, Guy, Ben and Reese.

While a young man he was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church South of the historic Logan chapel. At the time of his death he was a leader of the church work at that place and served as trustee. His interest in church work has been marked and he stood foremost in his community for religion and morals. His presence will be sorely missed.

Besides his wife and children he is survived by two brothers, J.W. of Creston, Mont., M.O., of Leavenworth, Washington, and four sisters, Mrs. B.T. Miles of Corydon, Amanda of Lineville, Mrs. S.P. Gann, of Springfield, Mo., and Coyle of Lineville.

For the last two years the health of the deceased has been failing. This finally developed into a form of Bright's disease which proved fatal. The end came in peace withut much suffering with his family about him. He was able to give them a farewell message and expressed his readiness to meet his Creator. His last illness was characterized with self sacrifice and patience. Tenderly cared for by his loved ones and a host of firends and neighbors who strived to make his last hours as comfortable as possible, a good father, husband, brother, neighbor, leader and friend has passed to the great beyond. His prayers and testimonies will be missed in the church. He lays down implements of spiritual warfare to take up the glorious rewards of the Heavenly King.

"Fight on my soul, til death
Shall bring thee to they God;
He'll take thee, at thy parting breath
To his devine abode."

The funeral service was held at the farm residence, Thursday at 10 a. m., conducted by Rev. H.E. Ryan, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church South. Interment was in the Evergreen cemetery at Lineville.
