Obituary ~ Ronald Dean "Ron" Gillespie
December 02, 1940 ~ February 24, 2013

Ronald Dean Gillespie, age 72 of Lamoni, Iowa, son of Cecil Ray and Elfrieda Lucile (Bowen) Gillespie, was born December 2, 1940 in Bethany, Missouri. He died at his home on Sunday, February 24, 2013.

After Ron graduated from Kellerton High School in Kellerton, Iowa, he started driving a city delivery truck in Des Moines, Iowa. Later he owned and operated his own trucking line, hauling from the Lamoni, Iowa packing plant. After it closed, he sold his truck and did mechanic work. He drove a tank wagon for the Mobile and Texaco stations in Lamoni and worked two stretches at the Lamoni Co-Op, before retiring in 2011 while working for Gary Naylor doing truck mechanic work and driving.

Ron was married to Judy McClure on November 6, 1961. They were blessed with three children, Debra, Kathryn, and Lisa. On the weekends the family enjoyed camping, water skiing, and fishing at Sun Valley Lake near Ellston, Iowa. Ron was married to Betty Smith Williams for several years. On January 15, 2011 Ron and Dixie Lee Ellis were united in marriage at their Lamoni home. They had a 21 year relationship and enjoyed dancing and riding motorcycles with their motorcycle club.

Preceding Ron in death were her parents and brother Maurice Gillespie. Survivors include his wife, Dixie Gillespie, of Lamoni; children, Debra Gillespie of Des Moines, Kathryn and Mark Jeske of Roselle, Illinois, and Lisa and Brett Buttz of Dallas City, Illinois; step-children, Peggy and Mick Anderson of Lexington, Oklahoma and Patty Chadwick and companion Bill Reece of Ozark, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters, Elaine Gillespie of Creston, Iowa and Teresa Green and husband David of Canton, Texas; sister-in-law Linda Gillespie of Canton, Ohio; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Trinity Christian Church west of Decatur, Iowa at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 with Rev. Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, at a later date. Arrangements were through the Slade – O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni, Iowa.
