Obituary ~ Raymond Gerrit VanDerLinden
November 07, 1955 ~ July 07, 2013

Raymond VanDerLinden, 57, of Lamoni died July 7, 2013, at his rural Lamoni home.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at Lamoni Community of Christ Church. Jon Barney will officiate. Visitation with family present will be after the service. Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni is in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established by the family.

Raymond Gerrit VanDerLinden, son of Lois Permelia (Broadhurst) and Herman J. VanDerLinden, was born Nov. 7, 1955, in Des Moines.

Raymond attended Murray High School, then went into the United States Army for three years. He served two years in Germany, returning home in 1976.

On June 17, 1978, Raymond married Cathy Sue Driskill.

They started their married life together living in Kellerton, where Raymond did construction work. They moved to Victor, where he was a police officer.

In 1990, they moved to Lamoni for Raymond to serve on the city police force.

Later, he was a deputy for Decatur County Sherriff's Office based in Leon. He retired several years later to be home with his wife.

Raymond was a member of the Board for Central Iowa Practical Shooters. He was part of the Mormon faith.

Raymond is survived by his wife Cathy VanDerLinden of Lamoni; children, Amanda (husband Jeremy) Popelka of Kellerton and Eric (wife Katie) VanDerLinden of Altoona; grandsons, Alex and Andrew Popelka of Kellerton; brothers-in-law, Tom Lapp, George McDannel and Dick Foreman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Margaret Anthony, Aronlee Lapp, Connie McDannel and Arlinda Foreman.
