October 8, 1863 ~ August 20, 1948JOSEPH McLELLAN BAKER was born in Decatur county near Leon, October 8, 1863 and passed away at the Decatur county hospital at Leon after a long illness at 3:30 a. m. Friday, August 20, 1948, at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 12 days.
He spent his entire life in Decatur County. At an early age he became a member of the Baptist church. He was united in marriage to SARAH ALICE HONN, who preceded him in death six years ago. To this union ten children were born, two of who preceded him in death. They are GEORGE R. BAKER of Leon, and Mrs. B. C. NEELY of St. Joseph, Mo.
Surviving are eight children: CLARENCE O. BAKER, RALPH L. BAKER, and Mrs. H. L. McVAY, all of Leon, Iowa; ORVA C. BAKER, Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. DOUGLAS BARBEE, Mrs. L. D. WILTSELL and Mrs. IVA SCURLCOK, all of St. Joseph, Mo.; and Mrs. R. L. MYERS, of Los Angeles, California.
He leaves also many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 22, 1948, at 2:30 p. m. at the Slade Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. J. L. MCCURDY, Minister of the Christian Church.
Music was furnished by Mrs. FLOSSIE GILHAM, accompanied by Mrs. FREDA BOLES.
Burial was in the Leon cemetery.
